Lester M. Miller is the second Mayor of Macon-Bibb County’s Consolidated Government, and the community’s first new mayor in 13 years. Once Election Day had passed, he immediately built a Transition Team celebrating the rich diversity of this community by bringing together more than 30 community leaders and experts from various sectors to map out priorities and a direction for the consolidated government.
Since taking office, he has started and maintained a variety of initiatives aimed to keep our streets and neighborhoods clean of trash and blighted structures, prevent violent crime, offer free mental health services, and provide a warm place to sleep and offer resources for those dealing with housing insecurity. Mayor Miller is also dedicated to investing into public safety. He and the Commission implemented annual incentive pay for public safety employees. Mayor Miller has been instrumental in beginning the rejuvenation of the area around the Macon Mall, including the construction of the new, 12,000-person Atrium Health Amphitheater and Rhythm & Rally, the world’s largest indoor pickleball facility.
His leadership has been recognized across the state and country. He was invited to speak on a panel at Harvard about how the County has used American Rescue Plan funds to meet the needs of the community. He and his team have twice been recognized with the Visionary City Award by the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Trend Magazine, first for the Brookdale Resource Center and then for the Macon Violence Prevention program. He has been named one of Georgia’s Most Influential people by both Georgia Trend Magazine and James Magazine. This year, he was recognized by James Magazine as one of the Most Influential Georgians.
at the 2024 Georgia Tourism Awards hosted by the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (GACVB), he was awarded the Bill Hardman Sr. Tourism Champion Award for Government and Rhythm & Rally was recognized as a Travelblazer.
Mayor Miller and his wife, Toby, have been married for more than 30 years and have raised their two sons, Tyler and Landon, here in Macon-Bibb, where both graduated from the public school system. He is an attorney, small business owner, and lifelong resident of Middle Georgia.
