Community of the year – Contest Rules
A. Compliance with applicable laws
“Participation by governmental entities is subject to all applicable laws, regulations, and ethics rules. Void where prohibited.”
B. Acceptance contingent on approval
“Any prize awarded to a governmental entity is subject to and contingent upon acceptance and approval in accordance with such entity’s applicable laws, ordinances, and policies.”
C. No intent to influence
“This program is intended solely as a recognition of achievement and is not intended to influence, and shall not be construed as influencing, any governmental decision-making.”
D. No business relationship required
“Participation in or receipt of an award is not conditioned on, and does not create, any obligation to enter into any business relationship with Sponsor.”
E. Alternative award / substitution clause
“If a governmental entity is unable to accept the prize as described due to applicable law or policy, Company reserves the right to provide an alternative award of equal or lesser value, or to recognize the winner without provision of a tangible prize.”
No individual entitlement
“No individual employee, officer, or representative of a municipality shall be deemed to have personally won or be entitled to any prize.”
A few other considerations:
Entity-only award + internal designation
“Any conference registrations or similar benefits will be awarded to the winning municipality as an entity. The municipality shall be solely responsible for designating any individual attendees in accordance with its applicable laws, policies, and procedures.”
Tie to specific purpose besides simple networking
“Conference attendance is intended to support professional development related to municipal operations and community programming.”
